Hill Cross Furniture is proud to showcase one of their most prestigious projects to date – The Orangery at Kensington Palace. Their bespoke services were crucial to the project’s success, highlighting their expertise and dedication to excellence in the contract furniture industry.

Hill cross’ bespoke banquette seating takes centre stage in this recently restored events venue located in the historic grounds of Kensington Palace, complementing The Orangery’s rich history.

Hillcross were commissioned by Historic Royal Palaces, the independent charity that cares for Kensington Palace, and interior designers, Studio KKD, to provide bespoke banquette seating and scatter cushions to complement their goal of creating a new destination for afternoon tea in London, mixing a modern sensibility with a nod to historical stories and detailing.

History of The Orangery

Originally designed by the visionary architect Nicholas Hawksmoor in 1704, and later enhanced by the renowned Sir John Vanbrugh, The Orangery was commissioned by Queen Anne as a lavish greenhouse for her beloved orange trees in winter.

Over the years, it evolved into a magnificent ‘summer supper house’, hosting extravagant royal gatherings amidst the fragrant blooms of citrus.

A Royally inspired dining experience

The baroque Orangery sits within its own gardens and is a stunning venue for events all year round. It is now open for bookings for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and private hire, perfect for enjoying a Royally inspired dining experience.

Lucy Sterne, Project Co-ordinator at Hill Cross Furniture said:

“We were thrilled to work on such an iconic project, supplying seating for one of London’s most revered heritage buildings. Thanks to Historic Royal Palaces for the commission.”
