Mandarin Oriental, Hyde Park London

Procurement giants, Benjamin West chose to work with lighting manufacturers Chelsom, to create a stunning custom lighting scheme for the interior spaces of one of London’s most iconic hotels, the 5-star Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, (1)Joyce Wang Studio designed a completely original lighting scheme that was inspired by the surrounding Hyde Park – An iconic space in central London with a wealth of textures, forms and colours to take inspiration from.

Because Joyce Wang Studio’s designs were eclectic in their material choices and shapes, Chelsom were required to use a complex range of manufacturing techniques. Not a problem for these manufacturing experts. Chelsom used combinations of rich brass metalwork alongside textured glass and organic materials providing striking visuals. london-2017-suite-knightsbridge-living-room (1)Suites and guestrooms were adorned with statement chandeliers, each room getting a bespoke design adding to the uniqueness of every room.

In keeping with the nearby Royal Horseguards Parade, corridor and bathroom light fittings were manufactured using synthetic horse hair. Bathroom wall sconces show the hair wrapped tightly around metal backplates to act as reflectors to the backlit light sources while magnanimous square pendants adorned with ribbed glass rods and ponytails of hair line the corridors to give a truly unique (1)In the main entrance lobby Chelsom supplied modernised balustrade mounted light fixtures which continue the overarching theme of crackled glass tones with rich brass metalwork.
